Tym T-90 MIIV
Share
This is another Tym pickup I've been making for ages that is now available on my site.

I started making these "Mosrite in a P-90" pickups many years ago as I LOVE P-90's and I LOVE Mosrites, but, you already know that right.
Initially I was also making a hand formed cover that closely emulated the original Mosrite cover, but these newer versions have a handmade P-90 cover which does still have some hand forming marks but is much cleaner and more accurate to the original P-90.

So, just in case you don't want to read my previous blogs about these pickups they were used in Mosrite from mid '65 right through to the early 70's. They first appeared in the now legendary "slab body" Ventures model II which is of course famous for being the choice of weapon for Johnny Ramone. His early sound is all these pickups (and his hands of course)

This is also the very same pickup that Kurt Cobain used in his also famous Gospel guitar made by Mosrite in the 60's. The Gospel is exactly the same guitar as the Mosrite Ventures Mark V, which was pretty much the same guitar as the Mosrite Ventures Mark II. These were both German Carve "student models" offered by Mosrite and all ran the same pickup inside different covers.
It's a very simple pickup with Alnico bar magnets as used in the pole piece Mosrite pickups flipped sideways and glued together with a piece of timber (neck offcuts at the factory) and thin clear plastic glued top and bottom to make a simple bobbin.

This pickup I make is EXACTLY the same construction as the originals with the same size bobbin as used in the Mosrite pickups, just fitted to a P-90 cover with just 2 holes for the mounting screws.
This pickup has been used by others including Ricky Wilson in the B-52s. It's a fairly hard pickup to come by in the wild and then if you don't have a Mosrite you have to modify and rout the guitar to make it fit. This Tym version will drop into any P-90 equipped guitar and give you the accurate Mosrite tone.
