Blessedly, the pogoing North Carolina indie veterans Superchunk will return to us later this summer with the deeply anticipated new album I Hate Music, and weandrsquo;ve already posted first single andldquo;FOH.andrdquo; As great as that song is, though, itandrsquo;s a mere appetizer compared to andldquo;Me andamp; You andamp; Jackie Mittoo, andrdquo; the bandandrsquo;s total endorphin-rush of a new song, one of the finest pieces of careening anthemic angst weandrsquo;ve heard in quite some time. In its title and the best of its many hooks, the song namechecks the great reggae keyboardist and Skatalites co-founder Jackie Mittoo, and even though the song doesnandrsquo;t remotely recall Mittoo musically, the sense of melodic joy is, I think, one heandrsquo;d recognize, even if the lyrics are more about the hopelessness that exists at the intersection of music and death.
